I wanted to add a picture of some lovely flowers beside an old building but blogger won't put it up. So you just get this one - the top of a chestnut tree as seen from the wall walkway. It is probably a little past the height of its glory. Helmut says that the fruit (nuts) of this tree are not eaten so it must be a different variety than the ones grown in N. America.

Interesting tree. I just found out this fall when I went with the kids on their field trip to the aerboratum that chestnuts are very prickly, about the size of a large black walnut unhulled. They really are weird. John says the nut is way inside that prickly outer portion. I wonder what kind of chestnuts "are roasting by the openon the fire" in the Christmas
carol. That last sentence doesn't make sense because I can't erase on this page. Well, we had the Kerr's here and had a delightful time. Have a safe trip this next week. Love, Pat
